Activity Model for Technology Integration

Activity Model for Technology Integration

The TPACK framework describes the types of knowledge (technological, pedagogical, and content) needed by a teacher for effective technology integration.  When integrating technology in the classroom, consideration of the dynamic and complex relationships among content, technology, pedagogy, and context is often overlooked.  Further, it is difficult to explain these relationships so that understanding translates into application.  This presentation introduces an instructional design model that facilitates technology integration in highly specialized contexts and develops instructor TPACK through learning activity types.  Utilizing technology mapping, instructors will be able to integrate appropriate technologies effectively and maximize student learning of instructional goals.

Learning Goals:

  • Examine an instructional design model for integrating technology in learning experiences that can be used to support the development of teacher TPACK
  • Explain key factors that influence selection of an appropriate instructional technology
  • Explore taxonomies of learning activity types that can support technology integrated instruction.
  • Apply the instructional design model and learning activity types to different disciplines and learning environments
