Academic Technologies

The technologies listed can be used by instructors to deliver information to, assess progress, communicate with, or receive feedback from their students. Some tools you can download or use on the Internet and others others are available to use by contacting The Center@Midway.

 

Midway Technology

Instructional technology tools help support and enhance teaching and learning at Midway University.  The Center@Midway is here to help you (novice, expert and everyone in between) find creative and constructive ways to integrate technology into your class. If you are looking to flip your class, make use of Canvas or simply want to experiment with some new instructional technologies, we can help.

Camtasia Studio  
Camtasia Studio is screen reocrding and video editing software that captures what you see and do on your screen along with your voice.  It can be used to create videos for training, demonstrations, and many other uses.  Please contact The Center@Midway to request to use the Camtasia Room located in the library.

 

Canvas
Canvas is the new Learning Management System for Midway University. The Center@Midway will conduct workshops and provide additional support to aid faculty members in the use of Canvas. See our Calendar of Events for upcoming workshops.
 

Grammarly 
Midway University provides Grammarly as a resource to our students, faculty, and staff. Grammarly is an automated proofreader and your personal grammar coach. Check writing for grammar, punctuation, style and much more.

 

Office 365 
Midway faculty, staff and students can sign up for Office 365 Education for free, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, and now Microsoft Teams, plus additional classroom tools.

Ring Central 
Ring Central is Midway University's cloud-based phone system.  In addition to call handling, Ring Central provides video conferencing and screen sharing capabilities. 

 

Turnitin 
Turnitin promotes academic integrity, streamlines grading and feedback, deters plagiarism, and improves students outcomes.

 

Zoom 
Zoom is a web conferencing program. You can meet, learn, and collaborate from anywhere you have access to a a device computer and an Internet connection using multi-way audio and video, application sharing and content display.

Adobe Spark

Adobe Spark is an online and mobile design app. Easily create stunning social graphics, short videos, and web pages.

 

 

Book Creator

Book Creator is a Chrome-based, flexible tool that allows instructors and students of any skill level to create, publish, and share online books. You can include pictures, text, videos, voice-overs and links in your book.. See also Book Creator for Students

 

Coggle

Coggle It is a mind map or concept map tool that allows students to collaborate.

 

 

Flipgrid

Flipgrid is a free, web-based video discussion board. The free version allows instructors to post a question and students to record a one minute and thirty second video recorded answer to that question. Flipgrid is a great tool for asynchronous discussions and simulated interviews.

 

Fotobabble

Fotobabble is a free, web-based tool that allows a student or faculty member to add voice over narration to a still picture. Students can take pictures during field trips or during field work and add narratives. Instructors can use fotobabble to explain anything that can be captured in an image. 

 

Insert Learning

Insert Learning is a chrome extension that allows you to take any article, website, or published google doc and allows you to add questions, prompts, additional comments, youtube videos or a self-recorded video


 

Padlet

Padlet is an application to create an online bulletin board that you can use to display information for any topic

 

 

PlayPosit

Playposit is a interactive web-based video platform that allows educators to provide formative assessment both inside and outside the classroom. Teachers are able to embed quiz-type questions into videos on Youtube, Vimeo, Khan Academy and other popular video platforms.

 

Powerpoint

Video power point presentations are great ways for students in both online and traditional classes to record their presentations. Faculty can also use recorded power point presentations to record their lectures.

 

ScreenCastify

Screencastify is an ultra simple screen recorder that will supercharge the way you communicate at work. Record, edit and share HD videos in seconds

 

 

Socrative

Socrative is a free, web-based "Student Response" tool. It allows the faculty member to create quizzes and polls that they can show in class. The students can access and take the quiz from a computer or phone. Students receive immediate feedback and faculty can see results in real time.

 

Sli.do

Slido is a Q&A and polling platform for your class. It offers interactive Q&A, live polls and insights about your students.

 


Quizlet

Quizlet allows faculty or students to create web-accessible flashcards. The flashcards can contain text only, pictures or even voice recordings. They are great ways to study both vocabulary and concepts.
