Mission

Objectives

The Center@Midway serves as a catalyst for effective teaching and engaged learning at Midway University.  Firmly rooted in the sciences of learning and cognition, instructional design, and multimedia learning, The Center@Midway strives to promote a culture of active learning and support the professional development of faculty and staff. 

Dedicated to assisting all faculty in improving the quality of teaching and learning services, the following are objectives of The Center@Midway for Innovation and Teaching Excellence: 

  • Offers programs, workshops, resources, and services designed to disseminate and investigate best practices an pedagogies within the Midway context.
  • Foster student learning and effective teaching through creative, innovative, and research-driven approaches, assessments, and technologies
  • Provide web-based resources for faculty understanding and application of innovative online, hybrid, and face-to-face teaching practices
  • Contribute to the development of quality courses at Midway University
  • Highlight excellence in teaching and learning at Midway University

Center Staff

Ellen BloomfieldAfter nearly 20 years of service as a high school mathematics teacher, Dr. Ellen Bloomfield joined Midway University as the Instructional Designer in 2014. She now serves as Director of Instructional Technology and manages The Center@Midway for Teaching Excellence and Innovation. Her research interests include technology integration, pedagogical strategies, and theories of learning.

Ellen holds a B.A. in Mathematics & Secondary Education from Transylvania University, a M.Ed. in Educational Leadership from Eastern Kentucky University and an Ed.D. in Instructional Systems Design from the University of Kentucky.
